FTN – F*@# The Name!
What’s in a name? That was Shakespeare’s original question some 400 years ago. Today’s Shakespeare says F*@# The Name! And rightly so. It doesn’t matter how beautiful a name sounds or how appealing it may be. The question comes down to does it deliver??
And deliver it does. I am not talking about our modern day Shakespeare, but a modern day eating joint called F*@# The Name (FTN from now on..) Inconspicuous in its appearance, you will probably need to look for FTN to find it. But that’s good. That makes it less likely for somebody who is looking for you to find you there.
One thing was clear to me when I entered FTN. You can’t take family there, its not for kitty parties, nor for romantic dinners. It reeks of testosterone, giving it a very masculine appeal. Not for the fainthearted, FTN is thee joint for the rock chauvinist.
In the 3 hours we were there, the boombox blasted rock anthems from metallica to guns n roses all the way up to touching modern rock. Not my kinda music. But my husband was ecstatic. Two TV screen relaying matches – the IPL was up on one, while EPL on the other- is typically what can be so distracting for the very nebulous male attention span. To add to my woes, my hubby was so keen on coming back to the place, albeit, without me. He was already whatsapping his “buddies” about the keen new joint he was eating at. What made him more enthused was that his favourite band “Coldplay” was plastered across our table, and we were eating off their faces.
We opened our palates with “Sex on the beach” and “F*#@ it up”, two mouth tingling cocktails, which were later followed by a Virgin Mojito and a Fruit punch. F*#@ it up is unique in that it takes away the sanity from a Long island ice tea – really kicking in nicely! My favourite was the fruit punch, not as fruity but just the right amount of punch!
Our starters were routine. The Chicken lollypops were lighter on the batter and heavier on the chicken, thankfully. Barbeque chicken wings were tangy and very nicely flavoured, a definite recommend. The chicken pahadi kebabs were well done and succulent. The jerk chicken was a first time and we found it interesting. The prawns butter pepper were the highlight of our starters. Not spicy, well wrapped and steamy hot was just the way I loved it.
We ended up with only a single main course – the Caribbean chicken. Slightly on the blandish side, with nice chicken chunks, creamy sauce, rice and exotic veggies, the main course was a delight. Sadly we had stuffed up so much on starters, that we didn’t have place in our tummies to try out anything more. No place for dessert either.
To wrap it up, my experience at FTN was great. My husband gives it a 11 out of 10 for the focus on what matters the most – good music, great booze & even better food. F*@# the Name!
