Golden Wave
Last Sunday morning my family and I decided to have lunch at Golden Wave restaurant. This restaurant, situated in the heart of Santacruz east, has the ambience of a typical family joint, with a warm cosiness which gives an “at home” feeling to the place. The restaurant serves Indian delights, A la carte offers varied choices and you also have an option of beer, wine & spirits on your table. One highlight about this place is its children friendly and there is a small area outside the restaurant for kids to play.
So let me begin with the drinks. We tried the Rumless Riki mocktail which is an in house specialty. A pepsi based mocktail that’s sweet and spicy. Then we called for the Alphonso Sizzle mocktail which was divine. It was kind of like a shake with mango pulp, vanilla ice cream and rose syrup in a 3 layered marvel. Oh this was so delightful! Lastly we tried the Country Lemonade mocktail which was just fabulous too. A perfect lemonade topped with orange juice. I just loved how it tasted!
Now coming to the food. First, we ordered the Veg Goti Kabab and the Chicken Pahadi kabab. I was surprised with the Goti kabab which although is a mixed vegetable starter, tastes like a non veg dish. The pahadi kebab was well done, succulent and is a classic. Next up was the Chicken Golconda, which tasted very like a dry version of a chettinad chicken. The tanginess complimented its mild piquancy makes it an appetizer which will literally make your mouth water. One appetizer which drew my attention was a Golden wave specialty, called the Chicken Gold Coin. This is a trilayered coin shaped hors d’oeuvre with an outer layer of crispy sesame, middle layer of potato and chicken mix on a third layer of crispy toasted bread. This was a crunchy delight and has addictive potential. The last of the appetizers was the Prawn Koliwada which is a non spicy tiger prawn preparation, another classic. We started the main course with a Chicken Margherita Pizza. Soft and creamy on a thin crusty base, this pizza hands down beats some regular brands on quality. Cheesy core, loaded with chunky chicken pieces and mildly saucy are its strengths. We ordered Chicken Peking Fried rice too. The kids enjoyed the pizza & fried rice. Next came the Chicken Maharaj and the Fish Fenugreek Garlic accompanied by an assorted bread basket. The Chicken Maharaj was a tomato based boneless chicken gravy, spicy and lip smacking this moghulai dish was well marinated with the juicy masala oozing form the depth of the chicken pieces. The methi based boneless fish preparation was more bland and was a first time for me. I am a regular fish eater and this combination has never crossed my mind. The fish was soft, well cooked, and its buttery taste was well balanced out by the aromatic bitterness brought on by the garlic methi base. This is definitely a must try for the avid fish eater! After 2 hours of feasting, we ended the lunch with the Golden Wave Special desert and Caramel Custard. The custard was creamy and had a bitter sweet caramel sauce to compliment it. It lacked the usual eggy taste most of the cheaply prepared custards have and that’s the eggy after taste that I hate. The Golden wave special is kind of like a sundae with a fruit salad base, three flavours of ice cream (Vanilla, Strawberry and Kesar Pista) garnished with jelly cubes, cocktail fruits, jam and topped with an abundance of dry fruits. It is a heavy desert and my kids relished every single bit of it.
It was a good Sunday lunch with my family. We enjoyed the ambiance, food and drinks and our kids had a blast overall. Thanks to Golden Wave for the lovely time!
